In a move to ensure public safety and maintain professionalism among police personnel, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has established a monitoring team to oversee the conduct of officers at checkpoints within the state. This decision was made following an operational assessment of key security points across Imo State, which aimed to evaluate the performance of officers engaged in stop-and-search and traffic control duties.
The monitoring team, led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, will work in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure that personnel adhere to professional conduct and refrain from corrupt practices, including extortion and incivility towards the public. To achieve this, the team will continuously patrol the state, monitoring checkpoints and ensuring that officers operate within the ambit of the Police Act.
Commissioner Aboki Danjuma emphasized the importance of professionalism, respect, and courtesy in interactions between police personnel and the public. He stressed that any unprofessional behavior, especially extortion, would not be tolerated. The Commissioner also reviewed the state’s overall security arrangements in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure strategic deployment of personnel and maintain law and order throughout the holiday period.
