The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a couple and three other persons for allegedly conducting an illegal marriage
ceremony in the Dala Local Government Area of the state.Confirming the arrest on Monday, the Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen
Abubakar, stated that the incident occurred after the agency received credible intelligence that an unlawful wedding had been organized without the approval of the
bride’s family. According to Dr. Abubakar, the suspects were apprehended during the ceremony, which took place over the
weekend in a private residence within Dala community. He explained that the action violated Islamic marriage laws, which require the presence and consent of a
guardian (wali) and witnesses before any union can be deemed legitimate.> “We acted promptly to prevent a situation that could undermine Islamic marital principles.
The couple and those involved in organizing the event have been taken into custody for proper investigation,” Abubakar said.He added that the suspects would be
charged before an Islamic court once investigations are completed to determine the appropriate legal steps.The Hisbah
Board, known for enforcing Islamic moral standards in Kano State, has in recent months intensified its surveillance to curb social vices, including unauthorized
marriages, indecent dressing, and immoral gatherings. Dr. Abubakar further appealed to residents to adhere strictly to Islamic
guidelines when conducting marriage ceremonies to avoid punishment under Sharia law. “We urge the public to seek proper guidance from religious scholars
before organizing weddings to ensure they meet all Islamic requirements,” he said. The development has stirred discussions across Kano, with some residents
supporting the Hisbah’s actions as a step toward preserving Islamic values, while others called for more public education to prevent similar incidents in the future.
