The Gombe State Government has announced the passing of the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Col. Abdullahi Bello (rtd),
who tragically lost his life in a fatal car accident along the Malam Sidi–Gombe road on Friday.
According to reports, the retired military officer was returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, where he had attended the North-East Regional Consultation on the
Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) programme when the accident occurred.
The news of his death was confirmed in an official statement issued by the Governor’s media aide, Isma’ila Uba Misilli, on behalf of Governor
Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya. The statement also disclosed that the commissioner’s police orderly, Sergeant Adamu Hussaini, died in the crash, while his driver sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya expressed deep sorrow over the death of Col. Bello, describing the incident as a “monumental loss to Gombe State and Nigeria as a whole.”
The governor praised the late commissioner as a disciplined officer, seasoned leader, and devoted public
servant who brought his vast military experience and commitment to public safety into the service of the state.
“Col. Abdullahi Bello (rtd) will be remembered as a pillar of discipline, courage, and selfless service. He carried
out his duties with unmatched diligence and a deep sense of responsibility,” Governor Yahaya said.
“His demise is a monumental loss not only to his family and our government but to Gombe State and Nigeria at large.”
Governor Yahaya further highlighted the late commissioner’s significant contributions to internal security
management in Gombe State. He noted that Col. Bello played an instrumental role in formulating strategic security policies, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, and strengthening
community safety mechanisms that helped make Gombe one of the most peaceful states in the North-East region.
“He was a man of integrity and discipline who gave his best in the service of humanity,” the governor added.
The governor extended heartfelt condolences to the families of both Col. Abdullahi Bello and Sergeant Adamu
Hussaini, praying that Almighty Allah forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljannat Firdaus.
He also prayed for the quick recovery of the injured driver, acknowledging that both men “died in active service to the state and the nation.”
The Gombe State Government announced that further details regarding the burial arrangements of the late commissioner would be communicated in due course.
