In a significant move to enhance economic integration in Africa, Ghana’s outgoing President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has announced visa-free travel to Ghana for all African passport holders, effective January 1, 2025. This landmark decision was revealed during Akufo-Addo’s address to the parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025.With this declaration, Ghana joins a growing list of African countries, including Rwanda, Seychelles, Gambia, and Benin, that offer visa-free entry to African travelers. This move is expected to foster greater economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and people-to-people ties among African nations. Akufo-Addo expressed his pride in approving visa-free travel to Ghana, emphasizing its alignment with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the African Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063. The latter vision aims to create an integrated and connected Africa by 2063.The visa-free travel is expected to attract more African tourists to Ghana, contributing to the country’s tourism sector and economic growth.*Ghana’s Commitment to African Integration.
