The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
As the Nigerian national team prepares for a new era under Chelle’s leadership, here are 10 key facts to know about the French tactician. Eric Chelle was born on November 11, 1977, in France. He began his coaching career in the lower divisions of French football.
Chelle has accumulated extensive coaching experience, having managed several clubs in France, including AS Cherbourg, US Quevilly-Rouen, and FC Rouen. Chelle has also worked with international teams, serving as an
assistant coach for the Togo national team from 2015 to 2016. Chelle is known for his emphasis on possession-based football, pressing, and attacking flair. He is expected to bring a fresh and exciting brand of football to the Super Eagles.
Chelle speaks fluent French, English, and Portuguese, which will facilitate communication with his Nigerian players and staff. Chelle holds a UEFA Pro License, the highest coaching certification in Europe, and a degree in sports management.
During his time at US Quevilly-Rouen, Chelle led the team to promotion to the French Ligue 2 and a Coupe de France quarterfinal appearance. Chelle had a brief playing career as a midfielder in the lower divisions of French football before Chelle has demonstrated his adaptability
by working with teams in different divisions and countries, which will be essential in navigating the unique challenges of African football.
Chelle has expressed his ambition to lead the Super Eagles to success in major international competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.
