A tragic accident occurred in Lagos on Saturday after a fully loaded truck lost control and plunged off the Oshodi Bridge, leaving one person seriously injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened in the early hours of the day when the truck driver reportedly lost
control of the vehicle while navigating the busy bridge. The truck, carrying heavy goods, veered off its lane and crashed through the railings before tumbling down from the bridge.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and emergency responders arrived swiftly at
the scene to rescue victims and clear the wreckage to prevent further gridlock.
The injured victim, identified as one of the truck’s assistants, was rescued from the mangled vehicle and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Confirming the incident, LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq said the accident caused significant traffic
congestion along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway but assured motorists that normal traffic flow was gradually being restored.
“The fully loaded truck fell off the bridge at Oshodi and landed beneath. Our rescue team and other emergency
agencies were immediately mobilized to the scene. One person sustained injuries and has been taken to the hospital for treatment,” Adebayo stated.
He also cautioned drivers to always ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any
journey, emphasizing that overloading and reckless driving often contribute to such avoidable road mishaps.
As of press time, authorities were still at the scene managing the situation and ensuring free vehicular movement
across the axis. The damaged truck has since been moved off the road to restore normal traffic.
