Former Councillor Mutiu Akinbami Gunned Down by Suspected Cultists in Abeokuta

A senseless act of violence has claimed the life of Mutiu Akinbami, a former councillor in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State. The incident occurred on Friday evening, around 6:00 p.m., at the Brewery area of Abeokuta.

According to eyewitnesses, Akinbami, popularly known as Egor, was riding a motorcycle when he was attacked and shot in the head by masked occupants of an unregistered white-tinted glass Hilux. The police were quickly alerted, and the Divisional Police Officer of Lafenwa mobilized patrol teams to the location.

The victim was rushed to Ijaiye General Hospital, Abeokuta, where he was sadly pronounced dead by a doctor. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Saturday, stating that arrests have been made and further details will be provided as investigations continue.

Akinbami’s murder has sent shockwaves throughout the community, and many are calling for justice to be served. The former councillor was a well-known figure in the area, having served as a staff member of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, in Abeokuta. He had also been listed as a wanted person, although the reasons behind this are still unclear.

As the police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Akinbami’s death, the community remains in a state of mourning. The senseless killing of a former public servant has raised concerns about the growing violence and lawlessness in the area.
