Fake Police Officer Arrested for Defrauding POS Operators in Ogun State

A fake police officer, Bukola Olabode, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for defrauding Point of Sale (POS) operators and residents in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State ¹. The 25-year-old suspect was caught after attempting to defraud a POS operator, Mary Midoyin.

According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, Olabode was dressed in a police camouflage uniform when he committed the crime. He made a fake transfer of N60,000 to the POS operator and collected the cash before fleeing the scene. However, his escape was short-lived, as he was handed over to the officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps by residents and later transferred to the police at the Idiroko Division.

Upon interrogation, Olabode confessed to defrauding POS operators in the community. Items recovered from him include a Samsung phone, a black Itel phone, a police constabulary warrant card, and a round-neck T-shirt

Odutola noted that the suspect has been detained, and investigations are ongoing for likely prosecution. The arrest of Olabode serves as a warning to others who may be engaging in similar fraudulent activities.

The Ogun State Police Command has demonstrated its commitment to combating crime and protecting residents in the state. The command’s efforts to apprehend and prosecute individuals involved in fraudulent activities are commendable.

In a similar incident, a fake police officer was arrested for defrauding POS operators and residents in Ihunbo, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State ². The suspect’s modus operandi involved posing as a police officer and making fake transfers to unsuspecting victims.

The arrest of Olabode and other similar suspects serves as a reminder to residents to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers. It is essential to verify the identity of such individuals before engaging with them.
