Baltasar Engonga, the former Director-General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been remanded in Malabo’s notorious Black Beach Prison following a shocking sex scandal.
The scandal, which has sent shockwaves across the country, involves over 400 sex tapes allegedly recorded by Engonga with prominent women, including wives of influential leaders.
Engonga’s downfall began with an investigation into fraud allegations, which led to the discovery of the sex tapes in his home and office. The revelations sparked widespread outrage, prompting Equatorial Guinea President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo to dismiss Engonga via Decree No. 118/2024 on November 4, 2024. The decree cited “irregularities committed in the exercise of his functions, as well as inappropriate family and social conduct for the performance of public duties” as reasons for his dismissal.
According to reports, Engonga was officially removed from his role on November 6, 2024, and was subsequently chained and transferred to Malabo Central Prison. He now faces charges of corruption and embezzlement, marking a stunning reversal of fortunes for the once-powerful anti-graft chief.
