A devastating accident occurred in Epe, Lagos State, on Monday, resulting in the loss of three lives. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, which involved a Dangote truck with registration number DCG-TM-028.
According to LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the Dangote truck experienced brake failure while descending from Ita-Opo, Epe. The out-of-control vehicle collided with a tricycle (AGL 442 QC) and a stationary Toyota Camry at the Ayeyoro traffic light before veering into the Ayetoro Market Complex.
The tragic collision claimed the lives of the tricycle driver and two students from Manpower Technical School. The deceased were transported to the Epe General Hospital mortuary with respect and dignity.
LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Taofiq Adebayo, issued a statement confirming the incident. Bakare-Oki commiserated with the families of the victims and assured that LASTMA would work closely with the Nigerian Police and other emergency responders to prevent such incidents.
The brake failure of the Dangote truck raises concerns about vehicle maintenance and road safety. Authorities must ensure that trucks and heavy vehicles are regularly inspected and maintained to prevent similar accidents.
