The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of a dismissed soldier and seven other suspects for their involvement in inter-state criminal activities. The suspects, who specialize in armed robbery and financial fraud, were apprehended with stolen items, including firearms, ammunition, cash, and other valuables.
According to the Spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects were arrested through a coordinated operation involving the Emene Division, Crack, and Octopus Tactical Squads, alongside the Neighbourhood Watch group. The operation, which commenced on November 12, 2024, led to the recovery of two locally made pistols, a cash sum of ₦300,450.00, and other stolen items.
The suspects, who have confessed to committing multiple armed robberies and fraudulent activities, include Ismaila Isah, 23; Sadik Ahmed, 28, a dismissed soldier; Abbas Usman, 33; Mubarak Garba, 24; Abubakar Haruna, 23; Abubakar Sani, 32; Obiri Chukwuebuka, 22; and Bright Omeniru, 22.
During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they used stolen phones to fraudulently withdraw funds from victims’ bank accounts. They also confessed to selling stolen proceeds in Imo and other states. Sadik Ahmed, the dismissed soldier, admitted to exploiting his background as a former security agent to bypass checkpoints during the inter-state shipment of stolen items.
The Enugu State Police Command has assured that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
