The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has emphasized the need for young people to join forces and combat corruption, noting that this menace affects all age groups but has a more devastating impact on the prospects and possibilities of youths.
According to the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede, it is essential that all hands are on deck to tackle corruption more fiercely, particularly among youths. Olukoyede made this statement at a town hall meeting organized by the EFCC in commemoration of the 2024 World Anti-Corruption Day in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Olukoyede warned that the allure of easy money from internet fraud is drawing young people into criminality, which can have dire consequences on their future. He emphasized that there is no sustainable success in internet fraud and that every young person deserves an equal opportunity for self-expression.
The EFCC chairman urged youths to forge a united front against corruption, noting that the future of Nigeria belongs to them. He encouraged them to always say no to the temptations of crime and align themselves with honesty and the Commission’s fight against corruption.
This call to action is not new, as the EFCC has been rallying youths against corruption across Nigeria. In 2020, the Commission organized a nationwide walk against corruption, which was replicated in 36 states ¹. The event aimed to sensitize and mobilize youths to reject corrupt practices and become advocates for a corruption-free society.
The EFCC’s efforts to combat corruption are crucial, as the menace has far-reaching consequences for the country’s development. By rallying youths against corruption, the Commission is empowering them to take ownership of their future and create a better Nigeria.
