The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a significant step in combating cybercrime in Nigeria with the establishment of a Cyber Crime Research Centre. This development was announced by the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, during a town hall meeting held in Ilorin, Kwara State, to mark the 2024 International Anti-Corruption Day.
The Cyber Crime Research Centre is part of the EFCC’s efforts to build capacities against internet fraud and other financial crimes. The centre will serve as a hub for research, training, and capacity building in the fight against cybercrime.
Advanced Research and Training:
The centre will provide advanced training and research opportunities for law enforcement agencies, industry professionals, and youths.
Cybersecurity Awareness: The centre will promote cybersecurity awareness and education among Nigerians, particularly youths.
The centre will foster collaboration and partnerships between the EFCC, other law enforcement agencies, and stakeholders in the private sector.
In his remarks, Mr. Olukoyede emphasized the need for youths to shun cybercrime and corruption, noting that these vices affect every age group and are particularly damaging to the prospects and possibilities of youths.
The EFCC Chairman also advised youths to see a better future ahead of them by choosing the pathway of integrity. “As we always say, taking shortcuts always cuts people short. Reject the shortcut of corruption, and your future will be established,” he said.
