The Edo State Government has raised an alarm over the disappearance of at least 200 government vehicles, with the Chairman of the Committee set up to recover the vehicles, Kelly Okungbowa, announcing the recovery of three vehicles within 24 hours. The recovered vehicles include one Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses, which were found in private custody.

According to Okungbowa, the committee’s success is attributed to the information provided by the public, and he appealed for more information to aid in the recovery of the remaining missing vehicles. Whistleblowers have been assured of a handsome reward for providing correct and verifiable information.

The recovery of the three vehicles is a significant achievement, especially considering that one of the Toyota Hiace buses contained palliatives meant for distribution to Edo people. The palliatives included bags of garri and rice, highlighting the need for the government to take action to prevent the misuse of public resources.

Okungbowa emphasized that the committee is committed to following the law and carrying out the mandate of Governor Monday Okpebholo to recover all missing government vehicles in private hands. He assured the people of Edo State that the committee will do its best to recover all the stolen vehicles, stressing that government property is not private property and should not be stolen by individuals.

The committee has given former government officials and citizens holding back government vehicles an ultimatum of 48 hours to return the vehicles. This move is expected to help in the recovery of the remaining missing vehicles and prevent future incidents of theft.

The Edo State Government’s efforts to recover the missing vehicles demonstrate its commitment to transparency and accountability in governance. The public’s cooperation and support are crucial in ensuring the success of this initiative.
