Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested three suspected gunrunners allegedly involved in supplying arms and ammunition to bandits operating in Kaduna State.
According to an official statement issued by the DSS and obtained by journalists, the arrests were carried out during a
series of coordinated sting operations in Igabi and Kachia Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.
The agency disclosed that one of the suspects, a 30-year-old man, was intercepted along the Nnamdi Azikiwe
Bypass in Igabi, while transporting a cache of dangerous weapons and ammunition hidden inside sacks of maize. Items recovered from the suspect included two AK-47 rifles, one PKT
machine gun, over 200 rounds of live ammunition, and four empty magazines.
In a related operation, DSS operatives apprehended two other suspects at Doka Village in Kachia Local Government Area, situated along the Abuja–Kaduna
Expressway, as they attempted to deliver three AK-47 rifles to bandits using a Volkswagen Golf vehicle.
Reacting to the development, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State commended the DSS for its intelligence-driven operations and the successful arrest of
the suspects. The governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to eradicating all forms
“There will be no hiding place for bandits and other criminal elements under our peace model,” Governor Sani
declared through the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shuaibu (SAN).
Governor Sani further extended his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Director-General of the DSS for their continuous support toward strengthening the state’s security
framework. He noted that the non-kinetic peace model adopted by his administration has played a major role in reducing crime rates and fostering stability across Kaduna.
The governor also issued a stern warning to criminal groups, urging them to desist from acts capable of undermining the
peace and security of the state. He emphasized that security agencies remain on high alert and will continue to pursue anyone attempting to destabilize Kaduna.
Meanwhile, the DSS confirmed that investigations into the arms trafficking case are still ongoing. The agency assured that all suspects would be
prosecuted in accordance with the law once investigations are concluded.
The DSS reaffirmed its dedication to combating the proliferation of illegal arms and pledged that it would not allow
Kaduna State or any part of the country to become a safe corridor for illegal weapons trafficking or criminal activities.
