The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved the Department of State Services (DSS) medical facility for the medical care
of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).The court, while ruling on the matter, affirmed
that the DSS medical centre is suitable and adequate to handle Kanu’s health needs. This development came during the
ongoing trial of the IPOB leader, who is facing terrorism-related charges brought against him by the Federal
Government.Kanu’s legal representative, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the ruling in a post shared via his X (formerly Twitter)
handle. Ejimakor stated that the presiding judge ruled in favour of the DSS medical facility and also set specific timelines for
Kanu’s defense. “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case has just been adjourned to 23rd October 2025 for the commencement of his
defense. The Judge further held that the DSS medical facility is adequate for his medical care and that MNK has until 30th
October to close his defense,” Ejimakor wrote. The Federal High Court therefore adjourned the proceedings to October 23,
2025, marking the formal start of Kanu’s defense presentation. The court also directed that all defense activities be
concluded by October 30, 2025.Nnamdi Kanu has been in the custody of the DSS since his re-arrest and extradition to
Nigeria in 2021. His case continues to attract both national and international attention as supporters and human rights
groups continue to call for fair trial and improved detention conditions.
