Former presidential spokesman Garba Shehu has come out to clarify the recent controversy surrounding the revocation of land allegedly belonging to former President Muhammadu Buhari by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Shehu described the incident as a “case of misinformation and bureaucratic missteps”.

According to Shehu, the land in question does not belong to Buhari personally but is registered under the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation. This foundation was established by well-meaning individuals around Buhari, who went about it in a lawful manner with the support of many good-hearted persons.

Shehu explained that Buhari himself has a plot of land registered in his name in Abuja, but he declined an offer to acquire additional land during his tenure in office. Instead, he returned the form without filling it out, stating that those without land should be given priority.

The controversy arose after Wike revoked several lands belonging to prominent individuals, including the Buhari Trust Fund, ex-Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and 760 others ². Shehu’s clarification aims to set the record straight and dispel any misinformation surrounding the issue.
