In a decisive move to tackle the lingering issue of insecurity in Benue State, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has inaugurated a new security outfit, the Benue State Civil Protection Guards (BSCPG), code-named ‘Anyam Nyor.’ This development is aimed at collaborating with other security agencies to put an end to violent crimes across the state.
Governor Alia assured the people of Benue State that his administration would prioritize the safety of every resident, creating an environment where everyone can thrive. He emphasized that security remains his top priority, stating, “We cannot build a prosperous state upon insecurity. I am resolute in my determination to safeguard our people and create an environment where they can flourish.”
The inauguration ceremony, held at the IBB Square in Makurdi, featured the launch of 5,000 gallant officers of the BSCPG, as well as the donation of 100 Hilux vehicles and 600 special combat motorcycles to security agencies in the state. This initiative is part of Governor Alia’s earlier promise to recruit 10,000 youths to complement the efforts of conventional security apparatuses in safeguarding the state and its people.
The BSCPG is established by law, with the primary goal of decisively combating criminality and creating a secure environment where residents can live, farm, work, and thrive without fear. Governor Alia expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support, as well as his colleagues, fellow governors, and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for their cooperation and encouragement.
Governor Alia urged the people of Benue State to take full advantage of the Amnesty Programme, which is being vigorously pursued by the State Amnesty Committee. He reminded the people that the time for elections is over and that it is now time to deliver good governance. The governor called on all well-meaning sons and daughters of Benue to come together and support his administration in moving the state forward.
