In a thrilling encounter, Barcelona secured their 15th Spanish Super Cup title with a resounding 5-2 victory over arch-rivals Real Madrid on Sunday.
The highly anticipated match, played in Jeddah, saw Kylian Mbappé give Real Madrid an early lead in the 5th minute. However, Barcelona staged an incredible comeback, scoring four goals before the interval to take a commanding 4-1 lead.
Lamine Yamal equalized for Barcelona in the 22nd minute, followed by goals from Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Alejandro Balde. Raphinha added a fifth goal two minutes into the second half,
seemingly putting the game beyond Real Madrid’s reach.However, the match took a dramatic turn when Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny was sent off for a foul on Mbappé in the 56th minute. Rodrygo pulled one back for Real Madrid from a free-kick in the 60th
minute, but it was too little, too late, as Barcelona held on to secure their first Spanish Super Cup title since 2023.This victory marks a significant triumph for Barcelona, who have struggled in recent years.
The win will undoubtedly boost the team’s morale and provide a much-needed confidence boost for the remainder of the season.
