Anthony Esan Charged with Attempted Murder

 

Anthony Esan, a 24-year-old Nigerian, has been charged with attempted murder after stabbing a British soldier near an army barracks in Gillingham, Kent.

He appeared in court on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Medway Magistrates’ Court.

The motive behind the attack is still unknown, but police are exploring the possibility of mental health-related issues. Anthony  was arrested near his home address in Mooring Road, Rochester, at approximately 6:30 pm on the same day as the incident.

Esan’s uncle revealed that Anthony had traveled to the UK to seek better opportunities and study.

Esan worked as a delivery man for a restaurant in Maidstone but lost his job. He then moved to London.

The victim, a British soldier, was jogging with his dog near the barracks when Esan attacked him and then fled the scene. Esan’s uncle expressed concern about Anthony’s mental health, suggesting that he may have been struggling with issues.

The family is shocked by the incident and is trying to come to terms with what happened.
