The CEO of Airtel Nigeria, Surendran Chemmenkotil, has reiterated the company’s stance on the need for a tariff hike, citing the significant increase in operational costs.
Despite concerns from subscribers and regulatory bodies, Chemmenkotil remains resolute in his assertion that a tariff adjustment is necessary to ensure the sustainability of the business Chemmenkotil highlighted the escalating costs of doing business in Nigeria,
including the rising cost of diesel, fiber optic cables, and other essential infrastructure. He noted that these increased costs have resulted in significant pressure on the company’s bottom line, making it challenging to maintain the current tariff regime.
The Airtel CEO emphasized that a tariff hike is essential to ensure the company can continue to invest in its network infrastructure, improve service quality, and expand its coverage.
He assured subscribers that the company is committed to providing excellent services and that the proposed tariff hike will enable Airtel to maintain its high standards. Chemmenkotil confirmed that Airtel is engaging with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and other regulatory bodies to discuss the proposed tariff hike.
He expressed optimism that the regulatory authorities will understand the company’s position and work together to find a mutually beneficial solution. While Airtel’s subscribers have expressed concerns about the potential tariff hike,
