The Afenifere Diaspora in the United States of America (USA) has strongly condemned the arrest of human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, describing the charges against him as frivolous and concocted by the Nigeria Police to incarcerate him.
Comrade David Adenekan, Secretary of Afenifere Diaspora USA, demanded Farotimi’s immediate release, emphasizing that his incarceration was a desperate attempt to silence his critique and unbiased truth-telling. Adenekan praised Farotimi as the “voice of the voiceless in a moribund economy,” stressing that his voice cannot be suppressed.
Afenifere Diaspora USA holds President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration responsible for Farotimi’s safety and well-being, warning that any harm caused to him will be met with accountability ¹. The group has called on prominent figures, including Prof Wole Soyinka, Comrade Femi Falana (SAN), and Dr Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), to join the campaign for Farotimi’s release.
The arrest has sparked widespread concern, with the International Human Rights Organisation and International Criminal Court/Human Rights Watch (ICC) in the Hague closely monitoring the situation.
