Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has thrown a challenge at the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, to desist from actions that could destabilize the Southwest region. Adeleke’s reaction comes on the heels of Ganduje’s remarks about the Southwest after the Ondo State governorship election.

Ganduje had boasted that Osun and Oyo states are the APC’s next targets after their victory in the Ondo State governorship election. However, Adeleke countered that Ganduje’s statement was a deliberate attempt to destabilize the Southwest region and incite conflict.

Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, released a statement emphasizing that electoral contests are largely influenced by local factors, which differ significantly from one state to another. Rasheed noted that Ganduje’s threat to hijack opposition states undermines the general consensus among Yoruba people, who accept President Bola Tinubu as one of their own, despite political differences.

The statement further queried Ganduje’s intentions, asking if he truly loves President Tinubu, why is he pushing to destabilize the president’s home zone through open threats to violate electoral law and deny the electorate their rights to vote and be voted for?

Adeleke’s camp also extended an invitation to Ganduje to study Osun politics, to gain a better understanding of the state’s dynamics and appreciate why strategies that worked in Edo and Ondo may not yield the same results in Osun.
