Lagos, Nigeria — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised serious concerns over the alleged harassment and
intimidation of its members in Lagos State. The party claims that its supporters and officials have been subjected to
threats and coercion, undermining their ability to participate freely in political activities.Speaking during a press briefing
in Ikeja, Lagos, the ADC leadership expressed deep worry over the ongoing incidents, stressing that such actions not
only violate democratic principles but also threaten the integrity of the political process. “Our members in Lagos are being
harassed and intimidated for participating in legitimate political activities. This is unacceptable in a democratic society,”
said Mr. Leonard Umeh, ADC National Publicity Secretary.The party further called on security agencies to intervene and
ensure the safety of its members. According to the ADC, several supporters have reported being intimidated at party
offices and community events, with some alleging attempts to obstruct their engagement in political campaigns and
mobilization. Political analysts say that the allegations, if true, point to a worrisome trend of political suppression that could
undermine citizen participation and erode public trust in governance. They emphasize that safeguarding the rights of all political actors is essential for a healthy
democratic process in Lagos State and Nigeria at large. The ADC has vowed to document all reported cases of
harassment and intimidation and to seek legal remedies where necessary. The party also urged Lagos residents to remain
vigilant and report any infringements on their political rights. As the situation unfolds, the ADC continues to appeal to
authorities to ensure fair treatment for all political parties and their members, reinforcing the need for transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in the state.
