The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the state government against politicizing the issue of crime wave in the state. This warning comes in response to the state government’s earlier statement, which accused unpatriotic politicians of being behind the surge in violence and crime in Abia since May this year.

In a statement signed by Eric Ikwuagwu, the PDP Publicity Secretary, the party urged the state government to collaborate with security agencies and provide concrete evidence to aid in the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the heinous crimes. The PDP emphasized that playing politics with the lives of Abians is counterproductive and dangerous.

The party reminded the current administration that combating insecurity requires comprehensive strategies beyond mere declarations. The PDP also reiterated its commitment to providing constructive criticism and alternative perspectives without fear of intimidation.

Furthermore, the PDP warned the state government against pointing fingers at the opposition party, stating that such actions are unhelpful and divisive. Instead, the party called for a collaborative effort to address the security challenges facing the state.

The Abia State government had earlier alleged that some unpatriotic politicians, in connivance with external parties, are behind the current wave of violence and crime in the state ¹. However, the PDP has denied these allegations, emphasizing its commitment to supporting the state government in addressing the security challenges facing Abia.
