As the 2027 general elections draw near, former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has made it clear that there will be no automatic ticket for lawmakers from the state at both national and state assemblies. This declaration was made during the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting held at his Isan-Ekiti country home on Thursday.
Fayemi emphasized that lawmakers must work hard to earn their tickets, urging them to go back to their constituencies and mobilize support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s second term bid. He stated, “If those in the National and State Assemblies want to get the same treatment like we leaders are giving to the governor, they should go and work at home and if leaders in their districts and constituencies tell us they are capable and worthy, we will make decisions for them.”
The former governor also warned that members who had previously left the APC to contest on another platform would have to take a backseat before being considered for any position. Fayemi noted that these individuals had abandoned the party in the past, and it was only fair that they wait in line.
In his remarks, Fayemi also addressed the issue of support for Governor Oyebanji’s second term bid. He pointed out that many of those clamoring for Oyebanji’s return were the same individuals who had opposed his candidacy in 2022. Fayemi expressed his confidence in Oyebanji’s ability to deliver, citing his impressive performance in various sectors, including appointments.
Fayemi’s endorsement of Oyebanji was unequivocal, stating, “We have serious work at hand, and by early next year, INEC will announce the date for the Ekiti governorship poll. The governor has done well, and let me say that in politics, you can’t finish the work; let us support and continue to work for our man who is doing well as a governor, a very capable man for the job.”
