In a shocking turn of events, a 30-year-old man, Efe Onoetiyi, has been arrested by the police for the murder of his friend, Paulinus Okon, over a N30 million transaction. The incident occurred in Delta State, Nigeria, and has sent shockwaves through the community.
According to reports, Paulinus had been reported missing on September 8, 2024, by his brother, after he went out with Efe. Initially, Efe denied any knowledge of Paulinus’s disappearance, but later visited his family and demanded N500,000 to consult a herbalist who could help locate Paulinus. He also claimed that Paulinus had been kidnapped and collected a ransom of approximately N20,715,000 from Paulinus’s brother, claiming he was in contact with the kidnappers.
However, when it became clear that Efe was hiding something, he was arrested, and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at the State Headquarters in Asaba. Further investigation led to the indictment of one Okeimute Gaga, 48, who confessed to the crime.
Okeimute Gaga revealed that on September 8, 2024, he, Efe, Sunday Ikpeba, and a 30-year-old herbalist known as Lawrence Joseph tied Paulinus Okon to a stake at night near Orere River and beheaded him while he was still alive. The suspects then threw Paulinus’s body into the river, while the herbalist took his head and buried it at his shrine in Otokutu.
When questioned about his motives, Efe confessed that he had diverted the N30 million paid to him by Paulinus for a building purchase to buy two plots of land and build a duplex for himself. He claimed that he didn’t know how to explain the situation to Paulinus, so he decided to kill him instead.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta Command, Abaniwonda Olufemi, confirmed that Efe and the three other suspects are currently in custody.
