Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has cautioned members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) against writing unnecessary and frivolous petitions against anti-corruption agencies and judges. This warning was issued during a meeting with the chairman and members of the National Litigation Committee (NLT) of the NBA at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to Dr. Aliyu, writing petitions without concrete justification is not only improper but also counterproductive to the fight against corruption. He emphasized that lawyers, anti-corruption agencies, and judges are all partners in this fight and should work together to achieve their common goal.
Dr. Aliyu advised the NBA to explore appropriate professional measures to resolve issues arising between lawyers and anti-corruption officers during investigations and litigations. He assured the lawyers that the ICPC is committed to protecting their rights, as well as those of suspects, and encouraged them to report any concerns to the commission.
ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, noted that writing frivolous petitions against judges and officers involved in the fight against corruption can be discouraging and may hinder the progress of anti-corruption efforts.
