Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, departed Abuja on Friday for a diplomatic and spiritual trip to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. His first stop is Dubai, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the commissioning and naming of a $315 million oil production and storage facility.
The facility, acquired by Oriental Energy Limited, is a significant investment in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. As a fully Nigerian-owned company, it underscores the country’s efforts to boost local content and economic development. The commissioning ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, December 14, 2024, marks a milestone in Nigeria’s energy sector.
Following the event in Dubai, Vice President Shettima will proceed to Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj (Umrah) in the holy cities of Madinah and Makkah from December 16 to 19, 2024. This spiritual journey is a significant aspect of his trip, allowing him to connect with his faith and seek blessings for the nation.
In addition to his spiritual endeavors, Vice President Shettima will also engage in diplomatic discussions during his trip. On December 20, 2024, he will hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Jeddah. The meeting will focus on co-financing arrangements for the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ Phase II) and enhanced coordination of IsDB projects in Nigeria.
These discussions aim to bolster Nigeria’s agricultural and economic development, aligning with the government’s efforts to diversify the economy and promote sustainable growth. The Vice President’s trip demonstrates Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and driving economic progress.
Before embarking on his trip, Vice President Shettima attended the wedding Fatiha of the son of Senator Atiku Bagudu, the Honourable Minister for Budget and Economic Planning, at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna. The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including state governors, senators, and ministers.
Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria on or before December 21, 2024, bringing back valuable insights and agreements that will contribute to the country’s growth and development.
