Manchester City’s chances of defending their Premier League title continue to dwindle after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s side, who came into the game on the back of a convincing 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, were unable to capitalize on their momentum and secure a vital three points.
The match got off to a disastrous start for Manchester City, as Daniel Munoz broke through the offside trap and slotted the ball past Ortega Moreno to give Crystal Palace an early lead. Despite dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities, Manchester City struggled to find the back of the net until Erling Haaland equalized with a towering header just before halftime.
However, Crystal Palace restored their lead in the second half through a well-taken goal by Lacroix, leaving Manchester City to chase the game once again. Rico Lewis eventually drew the game level, but his joy was short-lived as he was shown a second yellow card, reducing Manchester City to 10 men for the remainder of the match.
The 2-2 draw means that Manchester City remain in fourth place, one point behind Arsenal and Chelsea, who both play on Sunday. Furthermore, they now trail leaders Liverpool by a significant eight points, although Liverpool’s game against Everton was postponed.
The result is a significant blow to Manchester City’s title defence, and they will need to regroup and refocus if they are to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League crown.
