A series of explosions has rocked the Dansadau District of Maru local government area (LGA) of Zamfara State, sparking widespread concern about the escalating insecurity in the North-West region. On Friday, two explosive devices detonated along the Dansadau-Malamawa and Malele Roads, both in the Dansadau District, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to eyewitnesses, a truck carrying passengers to the Dansadau weekly market narrowly escaped disaster when the vehicle triggered one of the explosive devices. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but the incident has left residents on edge.

This latest incident marks the third time in a week that explosive devices have been planted along roads in the Dansadau area by terrorists, raising concerns about public safety. On Wednesday, a deadly explosion killed 12 occupants of a car after an explosive device blew up a bridge in Yar Tasha village. The device was triggered when a commercial vehicle carrying passengers to Dansadau town drove over it.

A similar attack occurred last Sunday when an 18-seater bus ran over a planted explosive, claiming the life of the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle. The Zamfara State Police Command has linked the recent wave of explosions to a newly identified terror group known as Lakurawa.

The State’s Police Commissioner, Muhammad Shehu Dalijan, made the announcement on Wednesday, attributing the attacks to the group’s growing activities in the region. “This group has been responsible for planting explosives along major highways, targeting innocent civilians and commuters,” Dalijan said.

The increasing frequency of such incidents has left residents in fear, with many calling for swift action from security agencies to restore peace to the region. The Zamfara State Government has been urged to take immediate action to address the growing insecurity in the state and protect the lives and properties of its citizens.
