A 25-year-old student of the Delta State University, Abraka, Onoriode Roman, has been abducted by gunmen in Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon, and the gunmen have demanded a ransom of one million naira from the victim’s family ¹.
According to reports, the gunmen used the victim’s phone number to communicate with her family, ordering them to submit the ransom by 1 pm on Friday, December 6. The victim’s mother, Mrs. Florence, and her elder sister, Ese, have appealed to the police and other security agencies to intervene and rescue Roman.
The gunmen reportedly stripped the victim naked after abducting her, a disturbing trend that has been observed in similar incidents in the past. The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comment, as his mobile phone number was switched off.
This incident is not the first time that students of the Delta State University have been targeted by kidnappers. In the past, there have been reports of students being abducted and held for ransom.
The family of the victim and the university community are in a state of distress, and there are calls for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
