The Kwara State Government has strongly condemned the alleged assault on a youth corps member serving at Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, Ilorin. The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, described the act as unacceptable in society and Kwara State as a whole.
According to the commissioner, the state is known for peace and harmony, and the state government will not allow anything to truncate the existing peace in its academic institutions. The Anti-Loitering Team of the ministry and the management team of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission have paid an unscheduled visit to the school to investigate the alleged assault case and calm has been restored.
The accused teacher, Mrs. Amuzat Fatima Nike, has denied the allegations, claiming that the story is not true. According to her, the corps member had responded to her query about not greeting people by saying that she had greeted but people did not hear her. The teacher claimed that the corps member pushed her and she fell to the ground.
The Head of Information and Public Relations of NYSC in Kwara State, Morakinyo Oladipo, has confirmed the development and stated that NYSC would seek redress on the alleged attack against the corper. The state government has been briefed on the matter through the state Ministry of Youths. In the interim, the corper will be redeployed out of the vicinity to calm her down and help her overcome the trauma of the alleged assault
The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for the teacher to be held accountable for her actions. The Kwara State Government has promised to take necessary disciplinary actions against the teacher if found guilty.
