The National Examinations Council (NECO) has taken a significant step in expanding its global presence by accrediting more foreign schools to conduct the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). This development is a testament to NECO’s commitment to providing quality education and assessment beyond Nigeria’s borders.
According to the Acting Director, Information and Public Relations, Mr. Azeez Sani, the newly accredited schools are located in Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea. The NECO Accreditation Team conducted a thorough evaluation of these schools, inspecting their classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer laboratories, workshops, examination halls, and sports facilities to determine their adequacy and suitability for NECO examinations.
After a comprehensive assessment, the schools were granted full SSCE and full BECE accreditation status. This accreditation enables students in these schools to participate in NECO examinations, which are recognized globally. The expansion of NECO’s global presence is expected to provide opportunities for students worldwide to benefit from its expertise, contributing to the advancement of education in Africa and beyond.
In another development, candidates are currently participating in the ongoing NECO SSCE External in Diffa, Niger Republic. Notably, the UNHCR School in Diffa, Niger Republic, is the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria. NECO examinations are now written by candidates in several countries, including Benin Republic, Togo, Cote’d Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and Saudi Arabia.
This expansion underscores NECO’s commitment to providing accessible and quality education to students across the globe. By accrediting more foreign schools, NECO is bridging the gap between educational institutions and industry needs, ultimately contributing to the development of a more educated and skilled workforce.
