A daring attack on a military checkpoint in Abia State’s Umuopara, Ekenobizi area of Umuahia South Local Government Area occurred early Wednesday morning. The armed men, clad in black outfits, fired shots sporadically at the checkpoint, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the gunmen was heard threatening Governor Alex Otti, issuing a stern warning to dismantle the checkpoint and refrain from rebuilding it. The assailant’s words were laced with menace: “We’re removing it, Alex Chioma Otti… If we see this nonsense again, Alex, you are gone”.
This brazen assault comes on the heels of a similar attempted attack by gunmen on police and military checkpoints in the state, which was repelled by soldiers from Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks; 14 Brigade headquarters, Ohafia, just last week.
The attack has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for increased security measures to protect lives and property. The incident is a grim reminder of the escalating tensions in the region.
As the investigation unfolds, residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
