Nigeria’s Federal Government Launches Digital Transformation in Public Schools

The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to revolutionizing public education through

digitalization and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This initiative aims to cultivate a knowledge-based economy and produce globally competitive

learners. The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, officially launched the Digitalisation of Public

Schools Initiative at Queen’s College, Sabo, Lagos. The event, organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), was attended by dignitaries,

stakeholders, and alumni of the institution. Dr. Alausa emphasized that education must evolve to align with the demands of the modern workforce and innovation. He

stated, “We are embedding AI, EdTech, Robotics, coding, and digital literacy across school curricula to ensure our

youth are equipped with skills in STEMM, data, and coding for the future. As part of the initiative, over 1,000 interactive smart boards have been distributed to public

schools nationwide. This move signifies a shift from traditional chalkboards to interactive, technology-driven learning environments that promote engagement and creativity.The Minister commended

President Bola Tinubu for supporting the initiative, noting that 1,000 smart boards would be distributed to schools in Lagos to enhance digital learning. He also praised

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his Innovate Eko STEAM programme, which aims to equip young people with modern technological skills. In conjunction with the

distribution of smart boards, the Federal Ministry of Education and UBEC are conducting comprehensive training programs for teachers. These programs

are designed to equip educators with the necessary skills to effectively utilize digital tools in the classroom, thereby enhancing the learning experience for students. The digitalization of public schools represents

more than just an initiative; it marks the beginning of a new era in Nigerian education. This transformation aims to empower students, support teachers, and strengthen institutions to drive sustainable

national development.Through this commitment, the Federal Government is setting Nigeria firmly on the path to digital

inclusion, educational innovation, and global competitiveness, ensuring that every learner benefits from the promise of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
