Fuel scarcity persists in Lagos and other states despite assurances from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).
Marketers and motorists expressed frustration and anger over the continuous petrol scarcity in Lagos, the nation’s commercial nerve centre, and other parts of the country.
Most filling stations in Lagos did not have petrol, and the few that had the product had crowded premises with vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, jerrycan-bearing buyers, and those who came with fuel tanks of their generators and motorcycles.
The fuel scarcity has led to high prices, with some stations selling for as much as N950 per liter.
The situation is similar in other states, including Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Niger, and Nasarawa, where fuel scarcity has persisted for over a month.
The NNPC has blamed the scarcity on distribution challenges and evacuation issues, but marketers and motorists are skeptical, citing lack of transparency and inadequate supply.
The fuel scarcity has affected the economy, leading to hardship and poverty among Nigerians, with prices of commodities increasing by over 300%.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has assured that consistent supply of fuel will resume in a few weeks, but motorists are losing confidence in the government’s ability to resolve the issue.
